Booking Through Thursday-Crappy

Do you ever crave reading crappy books?

Why yes, yes I do. I read crappy books all the time in order to maintain sanity when I am inundated with stuffy historical monographs for school. Why read theorists like Bhaba, Renan, or Foucault when I could be reading something with action, adventure, sometimes even a plot! Best of all, no dictionary or cross-referencing required. I love me some crappy books. I love this topic as well!

  2. If it's something I actually enjoy, then I don't think it should be called crappy. Crappy for me means something that I seriously would not EVER want to read. There's nothing wrong with pleasure reading when you want a break from historical or theoretical writing. I don't think books are crappy just because they have action or adventure (or even romance). And actually having a plot would seem to be a good thing.

Do ever crave reading crappy books?

Sometimes you just want to turn your mind off and be entertained. They're like romantic comedy chick flicks.

  4. I think crappy doesn't always mean bad. bad book is one that is poorly written. Crappy can be cheesy. I think I'll know a bad book when I read one, and might very well abort it for another (better) book. :)

  5. I definitely don't think crappy is the same as bad, I kind of use the term endearingly...a crappy book is something that I have no reason to read besides pure pleasure. There are academic books then there are "crappy" books that I read just for fun-not to learn anything!
